A very happy Valentines Day -
If you don't know me already -
Hi, I'm Karen.
I'm a 50ish empty-nester
(I stopped counting a few years back and have no plans to start again anytime soon)
wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, aunt

I live with my husband, Greg, in the suburbs of Boston, work in the city, and spend most weekends in the green mountains of Vermont where we have a little getaway that we simply call
"Away"
Here our sign hangs as a gentle reminder to check your stress at the door.
(You can have it back when you leave - if you really want it.)

I enjoy far to many things to list - reading, cycling, most anything outdoors -
and toting my trusty Rebel (without a cause) to capture it all.

So - what do I blog about?
I'm pretty sure I had a purpose - at one time -
Yeah, that wasn't a lot of fun.
I guess I think of my blog as a photo journal.

I post mostly about our downtime at Away.
This is where I do the things I enjoy the most, and have the time to do them.
(And believe me, my weekday life - not so interesting)
Life moves just a bit slower here.

I also truly enjoy seeing what's going on in your corner of the world.
The connections I've made through blogging mean a lot to me.
So here's a little sample of what I post about:
There is a whole lot of quaint
A little bit of quinessential
I'm always on the lookout for quirky
And then, sometimes I throw in just a dash of daily life
(it's what I do)
So - that's me in a nutshell.
I'd love to have you along for the ride - I usually follow back
Because - as I mentioned, the connections mean a lot to me.
Thanks for dropping in!

ReplyDeleteHi Karen, your blog sounds delightful with some similarities to mine, only we live a world apart (Australia) and we still have a home filled with children (yet I'm not too much younger than you). Love the rural scenes and snippets of everyday life you shared.
ReplyDeleteMy name is also Karen
:)
Hi Karen! I am visiting from BMB!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to do a get to know me post, I didn't think of doing that but I will later today!
Your newest follower ;)

Thanks for the mini look into to your life and thanks for the beautiful photos. I'm a recent follower of your blog and I like what you have been posting. I'll be back for more.
ReplyDeleteKaren, a nice getting to know you post. Thanks for sharing about your interests in words and photos. From time to time, we have put info about ourselves on our blog, perhaps I will do another one soon. We started out using aliases of Bearrice & Grenville just for fun and in reality are Dorothy and Pat who live in a 100+ year old Victorian in a very small VA eastern shore town with hopes of relocating to NH...when we sell this home, which we do really call The Frog & PenguINN, but it is neither an Inn or B&B and drop in visitors are always welcome at the back door. Thanks for dropping in...come back anytime as the Welcome mat is always out.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog Karen! Thanks for participating :-) That's a great picture of you on the water!
ReplyDeleteFantastic "get to know me" post Karen -- wish I had thought to ask the BMB participants to do this... maybe next year?
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating in the Boost-My-Blog Party! xo
Thank you for the lovely introduction. Wonderful pictures and so special to have a designated 'get away'. I have a daughter at college at Wellesley, so New England has become more 'real' to us than previously. I hope to make another trip in that direction to include more rambling around and not just packing up a kid to take her to or fro.
ReplyDeleteNicki (from West Virginia)
I love your get to know me post- and I truly love your home "away" from home. Wish I had one..but I want mine in the mountains of Wyoming or Colorado!
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to meet you; what a great introduction.....Your photographs are beautiful and I look forward to visiting with you again....
ReplyDeleteI also meant to add that I am visiting from the Blog Hop....So much fun to meet new people through this hop.....
ReplyDeleteOh I love away and the meaning of the name. Your photos are amazing. I think away is a place that works well. Visiting from Valentine blog hop. B

ReplyDeleteSo nice to get to know you better! I've been following your blog for a while now of course :) I always enjoy your beautiful barn photos and seeing all the things you do while at "Away." Hope you're having a great Valentine's Day :)
ReplyDeleteHappy to see more of what you are interested in. I liked the bridge, by the way. Covered bridges are very scarce to non existent around here. However, no way do I buy the 50th thing...More like 35! :-}
ReplyDeleteFun getting to know you a little better, Karen. I always enjoy seeing your photos from "Away"!
ReplyDeleteHa! A fun post. I agree... having a set purpose was not so interesting. Quirky is much more fun!
ReplyDeleteI feel like I know you from your posts but this was a nice way to be formally introduced.
ReplyDeleteLove that chair!
well, i love your blog & swing by as often as i can, so i feel i already know you just a bit, but i always like the recaps. lovin the 'Away' sign & of course, the covered bridges... don't see many old cars like that or horse & buggies for that matter... esp fond of the beautiful barns! =)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed visiting here, and wanted to thank you for stopping by my blog. I love the name of your getaway spot. I would definitely check my stress at the door visiting there.

ReplyDeletethanks for visiting it's all about purple and for leaving such a sweet comment. i am also participating in byb!!
Great post for the Valentine's Day Blog Hop, Karen! Lovely introduction and pictures.
ReplyDeleteBetter late than never . . . I'm finally getting around to visiting. Love your blog. I am also a 50ish empty nester. We don't have an "Away" spot yet (we're dreaming of one on a beach) but we get away to wander and hike and garden - hoping to take up camping this summer. Thanks for visiting my blog - good to meet you - and I've added you to my Google Reader, so I'll be back often.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos!!! So enjoyed looking at these and seeing your getaway! We have had our mountain cabin for 15 years this spring. Many joyful times spent here and the biggest "gift " we have ever given ourselves. Yours looks like a charming spot, and like how you leave your cares at the door. That is how we are, and don't even have a clock in the cabin. Everything is just done "when we feel like it". Especially enjoy kayaking and 4 wheeling at our cabin
