away for the weekend: random friday

random friday

Wow - this week went by fast and I'm so happy it's Friday.
I'd like to say I'll catch my breath this weekend,
but doesn't it seem that weekends pass by in double time?

Anyway - it's Friday, and time for 5 random things.

1) I found these pretty blossoms hanging over my driveway, and they have a beautiful sweet fragrance. I have no clue what they are, but they're welcome to hang out at my house anytime.

2) Today is Chicago-daughter's birthday. If anyone had told me 28 years ago that my little baby girl was going to be a first-grade teacher in Chicago, I would have thought -
wait.....what?
(I guess it's hard to imagine them flying so far from the nest)

3) I am pondering - what happened to summer?

4) My next door neighbors have two bichon frise puppies - and while I'm more of a labrador retriever in a pickup sort of gal, I have to admit - those two little puff balls are pretty darned cute!

5) I stayed home last weekend because Greg was away on a business trip - and I missed
the Strolling of the Heifers. Yep, for real!
No way I'm missing it again next year -
I am gonna go see me some strolling cows!

That's it for me this week.
Have a great weekend!!  :-)
 - yeah, I know, I like enthusiastic punctuation...

  9. Sorry for that first message, I don't know how it went away just like that!!! The Heifer stroll looks like great fun! Could your flower be a Dogwood? and Happy 28th to your daughter, Chicago, wow, has she met OW? Since owning the Yorkie I've kind of fallen for little dogs as well as larger dogs, BF are little packages of cute.

  15. Wow! You have got the sidebar upgrades done. I am impressed!! Happy Birthday to your daughter :) The one thing I can say about Bichon's (my mom has one) is that they are yappy. I will take my mostly quiet golden retrievers any day.

  18. Karen, I'd be cutting some of those blossoms for my kitchen. I've always been a big dog person, but as I get older, the smaller ones look more manageable (plus seem to shed less). Have a great weekend!

  23. Lovely, lovely flowers Karen. It's a mock jasmine/mock orange, botanical name is Philadelphus. I completely sympathize with your feelings regarding your daughter. I remember thinking when Chloe was born that the year she enters grade one, my son Jonathan will be graduating grade 12. Guess what? Chloe is 21 and will graduate university with her bachelor's in one year! Where has the time gone? I don't know. Anyway, lovely visiting with you again and have a fantastic weekend. :)

You know you can complain about your weekends but I don't get weekends. I'm retired all the time. Retirement goes fast too.

  28. If you're having trouble finding summer, come on down to Texas. Step outside for 1 minute. You will know where it went to. Sweat. More sweat. Gladly send a little bit of summer up to ya'! (and I like enthusiastic punctuation, too!)

  29. Love your post, Karen. Glad you found out what was blossoming and smelling so good. If you are ever in Chicago visiting your lovely daughter and you feel like going on a photo shoot and a meet-up, I would love to meet you. I do know where there are some great mid-west barns.
