Last weekend while running errands, we decided to drive through downtown Bennington, Vermont rather than taking the more direct highway route.
I'm so glad we did.
While riding down Main Street,
I noticed some very colorful cats prowling the street.
And I'm thinking that this one would have a difficult time sneaking up on prey with its bright neon face.
These decoratively painted cougars are part of a large collection that make up this year's Catamount Prowl.

i love when cities do this. dallas did pegasus years ago (mobile oil is based here). i've seen photos of cattle, hogs, bison... i'm sure i'm missing several others! cougars are cool!
ReplyDeleteor i should say mobile oil had an office here. now that they're exxon mobile... who knows.
ReplyDeletemmm, I love downtown cities. There is absolutely always, always, always something new, wonderful, & exciting to find. I love these statues - they are very adventurous! Blessings to you!

These are wonderful creatures, I've seen artistist Cows before but never Cougars, amazing artists!
ReplyDeleteOh, these are fun! I love your new blog banner! (Of course, I am a sucker for a covered bridge!) All the pictures are pretty! Twyla
ReplyDeleteThis is a great find. It`s proof that it pays to take the long way home.
ReplyDeleteI had a goo friend from Bennington in the 70s and use to visit the often. It's been a few years since I've been there so I need to get back.
ReplyDeleteLove the cat art! I've seen dogs, bears, and even sneakers -- this really is popular lately it seems
i love the unexpected. so fun to see something new & fun. ( :
ReplyDeleteHow exciting for you to find these gems of creations ~ Lovely photography! Happy Day to you ^_^
ReplyDeleteOh I am so glad you did too. These are wonderful in Canada we have Moose like that:) B
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin does the sturgeon fish around their town, each one is decorated to go with the store that it stands in front of.
ReplyDeleteSurprises are always fun and it looks like you stumbled on a really neat one...I have seen horses and dogs done but haven't seen cats done.....It's amazing how creative people can get when decorating these.....
ReplyDeleteWow, those cougars are beautiful! So creative and majestic looking. What a wonderful find! I love downtowns. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful work of art! I would have loved to climb on top of it and have my picture taken lol.
ReplyDeleteYou have been working on your blog, good for you :) Your new blog header is very you! Love the cats. A number of years ago now our downtown had paper mache' pigs that artists had painted and decorated. We had problems with vandals beheading the pigs though, not a good look for a pig. So sad that people have to do things like that and ruin it for everybody.
ReplyDeleteI never stumble upon anything that amazing....and happen to have my camera at the same time! It's always...."Man, I wish I'd brought my camera!!" Good for you!!
ReplyDeleteChallenges are set up. Each artist gets a cat and creates what they can. It always turns out interesting and some people hate it intensely.
ReplyDeleteWinnipeg , Manitoba made about 100 polar bears and scattered them downtown. Artists applied for a bear and the rest was art.
Hi Karen great to see something different in a town. They had life size cows in some cities in the UK. Margaret
ReplyDeleteThise statues are truly special and exiting, Karen!
ReplyDeleteAnd I just noticed something in your header ... the red, covered bridge ... It reminds me a scene from a movie, I saw last summer (I just cannot remember the name of it now) ... I Wonder if that bridge is the same? It looks special and very pretty!
Those are awesome! Yes, I do love stumbling upon something unexpected. Especially when it is of the furry kind like my new kitten, Gizmo! Haha :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen for the tour of Vermont, which is on my list of places to visit one day soon :).
ReplyDeleteThank you also for visiting us at pret-a-vivre.com BTW, we have a linky party on Thursday, it'd be lovely if you could come and share your world with us :).

Thanks and have a great weekend,

These are cool cats! It is fun to stumble across surprises like that. One year when driving through Belfast, Maine, I stumbled across all kinds of painted bears.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I meant to mention your new header photos. Love them!
ReplyDeleteMy dog was sleeping next to me on the sofa when I clicked your link to see what the Catamount Prowl was all about. He jumped about ten feet in the air when he heard that mountain lion! I'm still laughing.
ReplyDeleteOoops - sorry! I meant to give a warning about that. Greg and I nearly jumped out of our seats when I opened the site.
DeleteWow, beautiful photos. I love your blog...I'll definitely be back!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting - I'd love to return the favor but can't find your blog (assuming you have one...) :-)
DeleteNice town and I love the cats. We were there many years ago, but couldn't stop. Had to keep that schedule, you know.
ReplyDeleteCool! Love that last one with the tree roots for feet.
ReplyDeleteThose are great! I love finding things like that!
ReplyDeleteGreat neon shot!
