random five for a random week

TGIF and a happy Friday to all of you!

1) It's commencement week here at the university where I work - and what a festive atmosphere on campus! All those happy, hopeful faces beneath the caps - and happy, proud parents. This morning I saw one young graduate sporting her red cowgirl boots beneath her gown. :-)

2) I switched my blogger profile to Google+ and am feeling ambivalent about the change. Any pros or cons that you know of?

3) I'm two months into my new morning gym routine and doing well with it. One of my co-workers enthusiastically asks "Don't you just love it"
Hmmmmmm - nope
I enjoy exercise and all -
but will never love packing my clean work clothes in a gym bag, rushing out the door before  6 am, and showering for work in a locker room.
Nope, never going to love that.

4) I'm thinking that if you're going to display a "Baby on Board" sign in your car window, you should also put away your cell phone, and maybe, just maybe, not text and drive.
Just sayin'

5) Next week I am going to go without breads, pasta, cookies, sweets -
for the whole week - yikes -
so, this morning when I stopped for my coffee, I figured a donut was in order.

I'm planning to take a short break from blogging. This is my crazy time at work, I also want to get caught up with my Picture Pro-cess class (which, by the way, is fabulous), and take care of a couple other small projects. Besides - no cupcakes next week - I may be grumpy.
Take care - and have a wonderful weekend!

  3. google + HATE IT ... not yelling just saying ... when you click on any one's comment to reply to them you can not find their blog or how to reply to them at all. it is a never ending circle of no answer. it plain stinks. i know i have mine but i will never again connect it to my blog. i can't figure the point? why google + ?? i did a post about it a while back. no thanks to google + ...

have a great weekend. hope the change in diet works for you. sounds rough. ( :

  4. I hope next week goes well! I tried a low carb diet once that called for no breads for 2 weeks. I made it about a week, and I was so irritable. I should have stuck it out, because I think in the end good things can come of it.

    I'm on Google + but I don't understand it.

  5. Google + = Got it but don't get it...TOTALLY agree with Beth^ SWITCH BACK! Can't find your blog from the comments!!!!!!

Ick...sorry to be a downer, but Ick...no sweets? Not even a little? *sigh* But I know you'll do GREAT! <3

    But we'll miss you!

    LOVE YA!

  6. What I meant was...I got it but I don't "get" it. Not easy to connect with IMHO. Thought I'd clarify after rereading. Maybe I should reread before hitting PUBLISH? o_O

  7. Congrats on your gym routine...it would take all the effort I could drum up to do what you do, so kudos!! And no pasta or sweets for a week...arghhh, that would eliminate my entire diet (just kidding).

  8. i do not like the g+ profile. i've never linked mine to the blog. the blogger profile doesn't force the use of your real name and it doesn't take nearly as long to load up when you click on it. also, hate having to fish for someone's blog address on their 'about' page if they don't use g+ to publish their posts. and some folks don't even show their blog as a link! sheesh! just my beefs.

i'm with you - used to work out on lunch hour and hated showering at work, lockers with work clothes, etc. but good for you for sticking it out.

  9. I wish you good luck with your no bread/sweets venture! I admire you for it! (All i'd do is whine.).

And you are absolutely correct about the texting/driving thing. I don't understand the 'need' to do it!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  10. I never used Google+. My brother started using it right off and doesn't like it. He regrets ever signing up with it because it's harder for him to share pictures with all of us....if we don't have Google+, we cannot even comment. Bad. I wouldn't use it ever. Love Blogger....love Google, but don't like being forced into things like identifying yourself to the world.

My daughter was and is still on a carb free diet. She has lost weight and is keeping it off. They have a cheat day once a week so they don't feel like they are loosing out on life. On that day they can have carbs, fried food, sugar, whatever....they just don't pig out. Good luck to you.

Hope your week off from blogging isn't full of stress for you. :)

  11. Good luck next week! You're a stronger woman than I am! And, yeah, it sucks, but the exercise is good for us.

  12. Good luck next week! I don't know if I could do that and if I tried, I'd be incredibly grumpy for sure haha. Have a good break and see you soon :)

  14. #5 = Snarly woman! Enjoy your "vacation".

  15. I am so proud of you with the gym routine and diet restrictions next week. You will be ready for summer and all of us will be complaining about the extra pounds....

I need to do extra work on the class as well. I am afraid I have gotten behind again... Have some fun on your break and I will be glad to see you when you get back....

  16. Have a wonderful blog break. Sometimes we need to step away from the computer and refresh our mind. Hope all is going well at work.

Good Luck with the carb and sugar free week. That is a challenging one.

  17. Fun stuff, Karen! Love the red cowboy boots, the funny thoughts on going to the gym, the donut treat. My kind of girl. Enjoy your break, we will miss you! xx

  18. I really like your random fives. They make me stop and think. The one on exercise says a lot about why it's hard to continue.

  19. i adore the thought of red cowgirl boots under a graduation gown. now that's a fun girl!! i don't like goggle +, as i find it difficult, at times, to navigate and get to where i am going. i feel like it adds a step or two and extra time to get to the final destination!!

i ride my bike and work in the yard and around the house. i don't enjoy "scheduled" exercise!!

have a fabulous weekend and enjoy your vacation from blogging. i miss it mucho, even if i just miss a day!!

  20. Good for you on the exercising...I'm on week 2 with a 28-day boot camp workout and I still can't say that I LOVE it ;) Have a good break, I know what you mean about it being crazy, trying to blog and getting ready for my parents moving in is hard to juggle. Love your photo, is that your spot when you're at "Away"?

  21. I hope you have a good blog break and get to do some fun things besides work and workouts. Good luck with the diet. I had to go on a no salt/iodine diet once for 2 weeks. That was hard as everything processed has salt added. I couldn't even have milk or chocolate!

  22. do not like google + but I'm not the best person to listen to, I don't like FB Twitter etc so there you go! Impressive regime to be following and working, good luck for the end result, enjoy your break.

  23. When I left a comment on a blog my name link took them to my Google + account rather than my blog. I didn't like that. So I disabled Google +. The exact same thing is happening to you.

  24. Good luck with your new healthy schedule. I confess I don't really like exercise either, especially early in the morning. But good luck. (And I have to agree with your #4 ...)

  25. Morning gym routines are the best!! They invigorate you for the rest of the day.

There is no way I could give up pasta and sweets for a week :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I used to run commencement on a campus, and it was a fun time indeed! Happy weekend to you. :)

  27. Love these. I have been thinking about trying the no breads, etc also. I find when I don't have very much I feel really good. It would be interesting to see how it would be without any for a week. I think I could do that :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Gosh - no sweets, and it's my birthday next week. I'll eat some cake for you. Have a good break.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I hope that was a great, BIG, fat donut if you're going a week with no carbs. Good luck and high five to you.

And YES-- the cell phones and texting while driving.... Grrrr. Where's a cop when you need one.

    Have a great week.

  31. Hope your week is going well. My husband has been of all sugar, dairy, wheat products, tea, coffee, beef, processed meats, most fruits etc since early January. he's lost heaps of weight (can't afford to lose any more) and it has helped with his eczema and sinuses heaps.

Touching your mobile phone is illegal here unless you have pulled over and turned your engine off. You can still speak if you have a hands free bluetooth connection.

I've not joined Google+ for privacy reasons etc.

  32. I don’t like switching my blogger profile to Google+. Doing any exercise physically is good, and I don’t think only gym could do that. Enjoy the festival time at university and the short break :)

I just returned from my blog break!

  33. i am laughing at number 4...yes, everyone look out for me because i am special and have a baby on board, but i'm not going to pay attention to the road, so watch for me and my baby!
    GAH!

    enjoy your time away!

    ReplyDelete
  34. ohhh and as for the switching to google+, i did and now i can't access my gmail or my adsense accounts for some reason...it messed everything up...google really has no clue beyond doing searches!

    ReplyDelete
  35. You make me laugh, Karen! It's probably a reflection on my IQ or something, but I gave it a try and disliked Google+ so much that I trashed my profile and posts there then blocked it on my email program. And I STILL get spam from it; don't ask me how. Mostly, I adore Google and think they make the world a better place, but I do not like Google+. Now, Google, please don't "lose" my blogger blog or something else bad for saying that please. Like I said, probably a reflection on my IQ... sigh... Enjoy your break! We'll be waiting.

  36. Had to chuckle at #3. I've been working at exercising, losing weight, healthy lifestyle changes for over a year now and I still hate it. I'll keep doing it because I love the way I feel (and I 'm even starting to not hate how I look) - but I'll never love it.

  37. Never tried google+ and after reading previous comment see no reason to try it. Enjoy your break p, Karen, and cutting out all that stuff at once would make me grumpy for sure.

  38. Loved your Random 5! Hope you make it a week without bread & sweets! :-) I also truly hope you enjoy your break. We all need one now and then.

  39. I didn't get a chance to get around to you Karen -- enjoy your break and have fun with the class. xo

  40. Hi Karen,
Hope your gym routine and blogging break are both going well!

I bet the red cowboy boot grad is a fun girl!
    LOVE the pic!!!

No bread or sweets - I'd be a mess!!! ;)
