random 5 - going mobile

I'm always saying or thinking "I should try this" or "I should learn that"... So this week I'm tackling "I should learn how to mobile blog." All words, photos and editing done on my iPhone.

And - It's Friday - so time for a little randomness with Nancy

1) wow- my iPhone has a camera! - not that I ever use it - it mostly leaves me thinking that I need stronger glasses. But we had a good time clowning around - and the Waterlogue app is fun!

2) Last week I ran across an old quote from Steve Jobs  -
"for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself 'If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?' and whenever the answer has been 'no' for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something..."
Hmmmm

3) the blogging world never stops surprising me. Two weeks ago when I posted about Maggie's adventure on the AT, one of my blog friends (thank you Dorothy) contacted one of her blog friends who also has a daughter on the trail. Imagine my surprise when I was texted a photo of the two of them together!

4) we've adopted Maggie's cat, Johnny Bananas, for the next few months. The little pest prefers to drink straight from the faucet. - and then there's his need for adoration at 4am...

5) for family and friends following Maggie's adventures - she sent me this photo earlier this week from somewhere in North Carolina. Can't argue with that scenery!

That's it for me this week - and I won't even preview this post on the computer (the control freak in me is cringing!) let's hope it's not a garbled mess!

How about you - do you use a smartphone for photos, blogging - everything / nothing?

As always, I wish you a wonderful weekend!

Update - partial fail on the mobile blogging - my links didn't take. Should be all set now.

  2. Hi Karen, I just read Lenora's post about her daughter (Chelsea) and Maggie's meeting while on the AT. Glad I could play a small part, thanks for the thanks!
Pat and I recently upgraded to iphones, and while texting has been fun it's a bit too hard for me to blog with it. I also do not create posts from the ipad, but prefer the Mac or older PC, prefer a larger screen and keyboard size.
    Enjoy yiur weekend away!

  3. Meant to say Your Weekend...always mistype the same word, especially when using the ipad to reply to a post!

  7. I'd love to do more with my phone, but my eyes just don't focus well on that small print and I am constantly searching for my cheaters so that I can see. I have my email and texting set to hugemongous...so huge my granddaughter laughs and laughs when she sees it. I'm trying out instagram- just for pics but so far haven't taken any news ones with the phone. I can't get the dang thing to take a good picture and I am sure I'm just doing something wrong!

  8. I sometimes use my cell phone for pictures and some of those times, I'm pleasantly surprised at how well it does. The Waterlogue app, in my humble opinion, could make the whole world a funnier place. Best wishes on learning to leave with the cat (mine have been around for awhile and their/mine routines still clash). Glad your daughter is doing well on her journey - very brave.

  9. Karen,

No on the mobile blogging. I like my smartphone, but still prefer my desktop for most of my internet and computer use.

I like the Jobs quote. Makes one really think.

The blogging communities we become active in are wonderful networks. It's an amazing thing.

Hope you have a fantastic weekend.

  11. Everyone is talking about Waterlogue. I think I better check it out. I rarely use my iPhone as a camera but this could make me do it.

  12. Is your daughter hiking the AT? We just watched a documentary on that. How amazing that must be.

Johnny Bananas is a sweetie! I think cats just need the attention as early in the day as possible. lol

I read nearly all my email on my phone and use it for Twitter. I take photos, too, the spur of the moment type.

  17. Mmmm. I've decided in a small group of people having a pleasant conversation, if one pulls out a smart phone, they become the conversation killers. With their little device, all seeing, all knowing, all smart ass.....:)

    1. Hahaha - it's probably best not to pull one out during a conversation and then act all smart... :-)

  18. What a fun name for a cat! My mobile phone has a 3 megapixel camera and a 3.2 inch screen so no I do not use it for blogging. Am looking for another one-have been saving up for a year and now am waiting for a sale.

  19. Karen - You know me - I'm in love with the phone and the phone camera (and the editing apps). I've never mobile blogged, but when I travel, I've occasionally published a blog using the Blogsy app on my iPad. I like seeing Maggie's smiling face in NC! Keep updating us.

  20. So cool that Maggie met up with a new friend on the trail! That is so cool. Blogging is awesome :) I don't have a smartphone, so I've never tried mobile blogging, or anything for that matter! I need to get with the times...

  21. I like your Randoms . . . especially of the "meet up" of your daughter on the A Trail with another bloggers daughter!

  22. I had a cat that drank only from the faucet. We finally got a table fountain....Love how small this world is and that your daughter got linked up. What an exciting journey she is on. Don't have an i-phone, but I do love Steve Job's quote. Hope you have a good weekend. xo Karen

  23. Too funny with your kitty, and that quote sure gets one thinking. I don't blog with my smart phone, tho I should try it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. You did very well using the iphone. I sometimes use my iPad for blogging but not very often. The kitty is funny about drinking water from the tap and so true about the 4 am thing. My one cat Harry want affection at that time of the morning too. Have a great weekend!

  25. Good for you for trying something new! I've posted from my phone after I've written the post on my computer. I relate to your feeling you need better glasses. The writing is so small! I love the photo of your cat. My cat Murphy drinks from the sink, too. If he's standing in it and we don't notice, he yips loudly. These cats have us trained, don't they?!

  26. I'm slowly finding my way around my iPhone (Christmas gift) and was delighted to begin using Waterlogue this week - what a fun app it is. I've not tried mobile blogging yet - maybe I should before I "need" to - your post turned out fine.

  27. Hi Karen! I use just one step above smoke signals, a trac phone :) so no pictures or fun stuff w/ my phone. The only reason I have it is because my son thought it was ridiculous that I didn't have any phone, so he bought it for me for Xmas a few years ago. Glad your daughter is having fun and hope she's taking lots of pics that maybe you can share some on your blog later. That would be fun to see. Looks and sounds like your grandkitty is having fun staying with you! Have a great weekend. Teresa at Cottagelodge

  29. That Waterlogue app is really good. Sigh the times we struggled to paint something like that.

  30. You did this entire post on your phone? VERY impressive! We also have a cat that prefers running water; must be cat thing! Enjoyed your post.

    ReplyDelete
  31. You did it! Even my lap top is too touchy delicate for me to word process with.... I think technology is leaving me way behind...:)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wonderful job on the mobile blog! My camera doesn't even take pictures! That's how far behind the times I am! Sounds like your daughter is still doing fine! Love that view behind them!

  33. hehe, you are so brave, not sure i could post without a preview!!

i have tried to blog from my ipad without much luck. i'm sure it's me BUT i try not to cram to much "techo knowledge" in to this old brain!!

i LOVE my iphone for everything else and i am pretty proud that i can REALLY use it. i know how to do lot's more stuff on it then most of my friends!!

  34. Love the photo of Maggie (having the adventure of a lifetime!), her cat, and the mobile phone pic done in watercolor! Awesome that you are learning to blog mobile...I don't do much of anything on my phone except use it as a phone! :-) Great Random 5! I didn't do one this past week but have one ready for this coming weekend. Have a happy St. Paddy's day!

  35. Johnny Bananas??? seriously cute cat. Our cats (3) were obsessed with drinking from sink or bathtub faucets until they drove us crazy, so we bought a "Drinkwell Fountain" - it was the best purchase ever. The cats love it and are OFF faucets now.
