keep vermont weird

Sitting in our favorite coffee shop
- where else? -
and I get a chuckle out of this guitar case.
Vermont is weird?
Hmmmmm
unique, quirky, quaint, uncommon...
All the adjectives that describe what makes Vermont special.
Weird? okay - sure, it's all just semantics.

Besides - it's always good to have a cause - I wonder where I can sign up.

Anyway - it's Friday - time for another random five

1) I found two different couples crossing the U.S.A. on bicycle. One of the couples is now on day #41. They've ridden 2,218 miles so far - Yorktowne, Virginia to Canon City, Colorado.
Yep - I'm impressed.

2) I love thunderstorms at night - they lull me off to sleep. This week we had a good thunderstorm and I slept like a baby - although - that saying never really made sense to me. As I remember it, babies wake up and cry periodically. I definitely didn't do that.

3) We don't get many good thunderstorms in New England like we did in the Midwest. But then, we don't get many tornadoes, either.

4) This weekend I'm planning to try mountain biking. Are you thinking what I am?
Yeah, I know, I really didn't learn anything from that recent pogo stick experience...

5) It's unanimous - blueberry baked oatmeal is yummy.
Recipe from epicurious here

That's all for me this week - have a wonderful weekend!

  5. I've only been to Vermont once, stopping in VERY early in the morning as we were passing through on our way to Maine. We stopped in a VERY small restaurant in a VERY small town and caused quite the ruckus with the local population who were not very accustomed to seeing out-of-towners at 5AM for breakfast, apparently. They weren't the weird ones, we were at that point. We felt so uncomfortable with all the locals staring at us, lol!

  6. i like that shot of the guitar case! we live on the appalachian trail and i am seeing so many hikers in town. they stop off at our kroger to get something to eat, supplies, or a rest! my husband asked 2 hikers last night that he saw, where they were from and one was from germany! wow! i thought that was pretty cool!
i love a good thunderstorm too!

  7. Haha, we try to keep Austin weird too. My advice on the mountain biking is to not do any trail too beyond your ability although my worse accident happened on a paved sidewalk...I went off the edge of a culvert. Don't ask, it was really stupid. :)

  10. I've come to the conclusion that whenever I have an idea like you to start some extreme sport, to snap myself back into reality. I have a very bad back due to abuses in my earlier years. I hope your experience is a good one though. Sounds like fun. :)

Thanks for sharing your Random 5 Karen. Always a pleasure to visit here.

  14. I never got the baby saying either. They wake up, cry a lot, and need to be fed at night. I'd rather not sleep like one myself!

Blueberry baked oatmeal! A must try. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

  15. thunderstorms at night are the worst when you have dogs that fear thunder and lightning. i have to turn a light on in order to mask some of the 'flash'. and if it gets bad, the pacing, the shaking, the...

  19. I love that guitar case with all the stickers. Too cool! I do like to go to sleep to the sound of thunderstorms as well. There's just something about it that lulls me off to sleep.

  20. I'd love to visit Vermont! The Mountains and landscapes for biking ... beautiful! Not that I'd fall easily asleep in thunderstorms - just rain is enough for me to make me sleepy :)

  22. Well, you got a good chuckle out of Vermont is weird but it also made you think about a few other things. I like slogans that are outside the box. I also like thunderstorms. we do get the odd tornado here.

  23. Good Luck on the bike - when I was younger I did a lot of off-road biking but now stick to paved areas. That recipe looks delicious - thanks!

  24. Have fun mountain biking! I love riding my bike. I can't wait until I get this ortho boot off and can ride away! :-) But I'm not in good enough shape for mountain biking, I don't think.

I've never been to Vermont, but would love to visit that area. There must be good things in a place that is proud to be weird. :-)

  28. Wait a minute - I thought Washington was weird! I love thunderstorms too, with lots of lightning! We don't get them often here, but when we do they are spectacular. But....yea, my poor dogs are scared to death. How fun to go mountain biking. Weird Washingtonians love mountain biking. Have fun and take some photos for us! xo

  31. Nice blog you got here. Came here through Jeevan's blog. I have heard a little about Vermont from a friend, a Vermonter as well, whom I have not met nor spoken to yet:). I have always loved quaint and weird towns. And, I truly enjoy this description here, and loved that solitary signboard welcoming the visitors to Vermont. Nice read.

  32. No chance of doing any mountain biking here on the VA eastern shore...it's flat, flat and flatter. Yeah, we thought Vermont was quirky and nice and we hope to go back again...we liked it!

  33. I too love to hear the rain and thunder when I'm trying to fall asleep, lucky for us our Sadie doesn't mind thunderstorms.

  35. I would think it hard to leave Vermont. I never understood that about sleeping like a baby, either!

  36. "Aggieville" - a shopping and eatery center next to our Alma Mater, Kansas State University, recently lost one of their landmark restaurants to be replaced by a chain. The cry of "Keep Aggieville Weird" was all over the place. I loved it!

Thuderstorms are one of my favorite sounds too - as long as there are no tornadoes involved, which happens too frequently around here.

  37. We visited Vermont a few weeks ago and saw the t-shirt and we wondered 'This place is weird?'. Everything seemed pretty normal to us, but the logo seemed kinda cute (The 'I'd tap that' picture still makes me chuckle). Our plans of hiking got seriously washed out, but we still enjoyed ourselves and we'll be back.
