thankful thursday - thanksgiving and family

Flowers in my window

in my usual Monday morning bleary-eyed state,
I chatted with my commuter train friends.
One mentioned getting ready for Thanksgiving - next week
Me: Nooooo - it's not next week!
Commuter friends smile - exchange glances - nod
Me (insistent): But it can't be! Don't we have two more weekends?
(there may have been a teensy bit of whining, there)
Commuter stranger in the next seat looks up from her laptop: No - it's next week
Me: sigh - I haven't even thought about food yet...

So, yes - Thanksgiving is next week
- and I am thankful for that
The shopping and meal preparation will get done
- and the table set
I am looking forward to dinner and a few extra days with my family.
(and our annual tractor parade - it's a Vermont thing)

I am joining Michelle for Thankful Thursday

Thanks for dropping in!

  1. Hello, Thanksgiving seemed to pop up quickly. November is going by quickly. We have a tractor parade every year on my street, it is fun. Lovely flowers and photo. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

  2. Pretty flowers always bring a smile!
Hope you don't stress too much about Thanksgiving, something I wish we celebrated here but then I realise the amount of work that's involved & sigh with relief that it's still five weeks until Christmas!
Wish I could return to Vermont for the tractor parade!

  4. No cooking chores on Thanksgiving as we're traveling to NJ to spend the day with family there, but we're bringing wine and other goodies. Thankful for being able to celebrate with family. What town in VT has the tractor parade? The only ones we've seen were on the VA eastern shore and usually in summer months.

  7. I would love to see the tractor parade! Please do post pictures. :) It sounds like it should be an Ohio thing too...maybe it is and I just don't know about it. I am thankful that next week is Thanksgiving too. I am looking forward to being with my family. My side of the family celebrates Christmas at Thanksgiving because we are all there together. We named it Thankmas. So I have been getting presents together this week... Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

  8. We have tractor parades here too! No doubt it will be the highlight of our dreary, wet, cold, windy fall...:(

  9. Don't worry it has snuck up on me too, especially with the chaos of the last couple of weeks. Glen wants to smoke a turkey and I am more than willing to let him. If all I have to do is the sides, that is wonderful.

if you are cooking, you are on the skinny with time but i'm sure you will pull it off. let everyone bring one thing and you just prepare the turkey!! do it, you will enjoy it more. beautiful image!!

  11. With it being so early this year, I think we are all a bit stunned - but I have my lists made and prep has begun. Happy Thanksgiving. I guess I've never seen a tractor parade - how you show photos.
