A couple of years ago, our oldest daughter, Maggie,
visited us during a particularly snowy week in December
(she is convinced that she was meant to be a Southerner
- let's just say that winter isn't her favorite season)

After being snowbound for a day,
and then venturing out, only to get our car stuck in a snowbank on the side of our driveway
- and cancelling dinner plans (opting for a pot of chili at home)
she remarked: It feels like summer here
Me: ummmmmm.......?
Maggie: No, not the weather - but you know how summer just feels different?
Me: (smile)
Maggie: It's like that here, relaxed... friendly, less stressed - like summer
the essence of weekends at Away
and while I'm not fond of living in two homes,
Away provides a place to unwind from our stressful weekday life

Just such a cozy post and photos - (NOT the one knee deep in snow though!!!) I enjoyed very much because having family near and a place to unwind, do jigsaws and drink mug root beer seems like very good fun!

ReplyDeleteEvery season has an essence... though winter is my favourite season; I love the summer breeze despite the harsh weather here. Being together is absolutely the essence of summer, while winter wraps outside, the warmth inside is indeed pleasure. Beautiful snaps

ReplyDeleteOh, how I understand living in 2 houses. We did it for almost 7 years, and then decided to sell House #1, and move into House #2. While I miss House #1, it's a WHOLE lot less work. :-)
Dear Karen, When you're able to retire, you'll be AWAY all the time - serene and relaxed! I see it was snowing in VT that weekend. It's been snowing here all day. We needed some fresh after a couple weeks of temps into the 40's. I love the photos.
ReplyDeleteaway = happy smiles, birds and puzzles (i think i see pieces), you need that when you work full time. but i would not want two homes either - not just for the maintenance, but also because i would miss my "special" things that are scattered about my home!!!

Summer seems to go on FOREVER. I swear it's half the year here! Not that I mind at all...the heat does get old after a while, though. That snow looks SO fun! Would you believe I've never been skiing?

ReplyDeleteHaving an "Away" while still working sounds good to me. Of course, being a teacher away was June,July, and August. Time to travel. Now that was also good...:)
