Earlier this week, we found out that this wonderful little hang-out is closing.
I will greatly miss the Jamaica Coffee House and it's warm, friendly atmosphere.
In small rural areas such as this one, these small businesses are the backbone of the community.
I wish the owners well - and hope they are moving on to an exciting new venture.

That is so sad that they are closing. At least you got to go there one more time. I would be devastated if my favorite one closed, but they do a pretty bang up business. Love the photo looking through the window.

ReplyDeleteSo sad that it's closing! It's little places like this that warm the heart in ways that the chain-coffee shops (ahem, Starbucks) never can.

ReplyDeleteOur little town struggles with keeping an eating establishment open. We have a cafe open in the morning and through midafternoon. The C-Store is open all days and makes sub sandwiches or pizza. There is no place to eat a nice supper. It is sad to see small businesses struggle in our rural communities.

ReplyDeleteIt's too bad that the shop is closing! I hate it when I find somewhere I really love but they close down. Seems like mom & pop stores aren't able to compete with the bigger chains. So sad.

While it's nice that the coffee shop owners are moving forward with a new venture, their coffee shop will be missed not only by yourself but many others. Perhaps a new owner will re-open a similar place?
ReplyDeleteIt always makes me sad when I learn of a neat shop closing but it's hard in small towns to make a go of it.....I know at our beach community shops are closing and new ones opening all the time...Just last week I saw one of my favorite little shops had closed since the last time I was there....I will miss those ladies; they were so helpful....I hope there's another coffee shop so you can still get your coffee......So glad to see you back....

Ah too bad about the J C House closing, perhaps some new entrepreneur will take up the baton. I was expecting to see more snow in Vermont I do not know why....

ReplyDeleteJust so everyone can have an idea of how special the Jamaica Coffee House was - one time I had to get up way too early (4:30AM) to drive back to Boston from Vermont. Dave left a hot cup of coffee outside on the railing by the street for me as I passed by. You just don't find customer service/nice people like that everywhere.

What a sweet story on the comment above about the owner leaving hot coffee for a weekender traveling back to the city for work. Isn't it wonderful getting away to a cute place like this for the weekend? One of the things that we so love about our cabin. Do you go there every weekend?
