It all started when I began to wonder what kind of birds
I heard singing in the forest.
- and then, these little chickadees stole my heart -
Now, I think I'm feeding every bird on our side of the mountain -
So - it's Friday, and you know what that means -
Time to join Nancy at A Rural Journal for Random 5 Friday
1) I enjoy talking to my chickadees as I fill their feeders. My kids are worried that I'm turning into
a nutty bird-lady -
but I'm okay with that.
2) We had an unexpected snow day this week - and I got so much accomplished around the house.
I kind of wish I could have one every week - snow and all...
3) Since learning about the closing of my favorite coffee shop, I am having dreams of chucking my city life and running a small village coffee shop.
Yep - crazy, crazy dreams.
4) I found my old point-and-shoot in a cabinet while cleaning, and thought,
"gee, you're so cute and small. I really need to start taking you everywhere I go - like I used to"
5) Yeah - sometimes I talk to inanimate objects.
Maybe my kids should stop worrying about me becoming a nutty bird-lady -
and just plain worry
:-)
Have a wonderful weekend!
I have exactly the same bird feeder. It saves me a bundle of $$$ from the squirrels stealing the seed. Good luck on you coffee shop. :)
ReplyDeleteOh there is no other bird that makes me sing along like a Chick -a -Dee in the bush I understand. Oh go for it open a coffee shop it would be exhausting but fun.
ReplyDeleteI talk to cows deer and birds so I get that:) Hug B
oh you always make me happy when i read your posts! yes, open a coffee shop, you'd be great at it! i would come in all day and hang out with you if i lived nearby!
ReplyDeleteI love your little chicadee shots! I was photographing what I thought were chicadees last weekend . Now I don't know too much about birds, and when i posted a shot, found out it was a junco. I had rented a 400mm lens, and was really having alot of fun with the birds though. Bet you are enjoying seeing them. Nice to see you and hope your weekend is awesome. Enjoy those snow days. We even had snow in Dallas yesterday. What a winter. I am ready for spring!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, I talk to inanimate objects too- and to myself. Good thing I am the only one here during the day or the dh might start thinking I should be put away! Pretty little birds!
ReplyDeleteLove these! I talked to objects all the time when I worked in retail, it helped sort things in my head I guess. Chickadees are the cutest, so talk away. Yes, open the coffee shop and then I can come there to write an episode of the Coffee Shop Chronicles :)
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with being a nutty bird lady!
ReplyDeletei love chickadees .. they are my ultimate favorite. my 2nd is a wren.. i am not an expert on birds so i might be wrong on the name there ... but they are super small but the tune they sing is so loud ... they come around my house all the time. chickadees are the 2nd loudest around here. or the blue jay ... but they are huge birds ... i am talking small little ones. enjoy your snow. ( :
ReplyDeleteI'm the nutty bird lady around here, too. Also, the nutty cat lady, too, since I'm always talking to the kitties. I love the chickadee shot, I tried getting a shot through the window of my back door yesterday. They don't sit still at the feeder very long!
ReplyDeleteWhen you live out in the sticks with little human contact, talking to animate or inanimate objects is normal. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining in R5F this week.
Gorgeous photos! They look very like UK coal tits - wonder if they're distant cousins...
ReplyDeleteIt's my first Random 5, so lovely to 'meet' you :)
I love chickadees. I think they are my favorite birds to see at the bird feeder! Adorable. And there's nothing quite as nice as an unexpected snow day :)
ReplyDeleteI love chickadees -- great shots. I talk all the time to my kitties. When I put the buffet out for the birds, there is always a squirrel or two outside that I talk to. So far, they haven't answered back. ;) Carry around the point and shoot! Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteI've been feeding the birds much more this winter - I'm not talking to them yet, but give me another month of this snow and I'll be a crazy lady too :-)
ReplyDeleteI like your birdie shots, Karen! Enjoy the simple things in life.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing what one can accomplish with an unexpected day off from work. Yea for you!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
I talk to myself and to my dog. When my hubby catches me talking to myself, I always tell him I'm talking to the dog, just so he won't worry. Love your lifestyle of getting away to Vermont for the weekends. It must help so much with the stresses of city life.
ReplyDeleteha ha. well, from one confirmed nutty bird/dog/critter/inanimate lady to another, you go with your bad self! :)
ReplyDeleteNot to worry, I talk to my cats and plants outside most times. The cats respond with a meow. Not sure about the plants. It is nice to get things done in the house from time to time.
ReplyDeleteChickadees are so cute! My daughter calls me the "crazy squirrel lady", because I feed the squirrels in the yard, some by hand. They all gather around me when I am filling the bird feeders, and I talk to them too!
ReplyDeleteLove your little chickadees! And that 'crazy' dream is not really so crazy. I think it sounds wonderful! {Easy for me to say.}
ReplyDeleteAwww, such cute little chickadees! I love that first photo. And I think you should go for your dream! I can't even count the number of people who thought we were literally insane for wanting to sell our house in the city and move 35 miles away in the middle of nowhere. But now they are all envious once they see how great it is haha ;)
ReplyDeleteit's too late for me....i already am a nutty bird lady!! and i have to say, it was cheaper to put two kids through college!!
ReplyDeleteyou shop do the coffee shop thing, that would be soooo awesome!!
should....i always proof read after, what's the point!!
ReplyDeleteLOL
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
Awww...the little chickadees! I don't see them around my neck of the woods in the winter! :-(
It's okay to be nutty! I am!
Have a great weekend....diane @ thoughts and shots
Aww the chickadee is so cute and adorable! Have a lovely weekend Karen :)
ReplyDeleteI love to feed the birds but it can get expensive.
ReplyDeleteUsed to when I worked...if I got an unexpected day or afternoon off, I could get so much done. However, if I knew I was getting a day off, I would be so excited about it I laid and thought about all I was going to do the night before, then would get up too tired to do anything.
The ship has sailed on me being categorized as 'crazy' when it comes to my daily conversations. They frequently include a cat, and often inanimate objects as I'm home alone.
ReplyDeleteAnother bird talkin' lady right here . . . so you're not alone!
ReplyDeleteChickadees are favorites, too! I love their perky little voices! Right up there with blue birds!
ReplyDeleteThis made me laugh! I heard a lady talking to herself at the grocery store the other day and then I heard the Mr. having quite a conversation with himself as he brought in firewood. I kept saying, 'What Honey?' He didn't even know he was thinking out loud! It's been one of those weeks. Love your Chickadee - they do cheer us up, don't they? xo Karen
ReplyDeleteawww....sweet shots.
ReplyDeleteLike Tanya said, its a happy happy post.
ReplyDeleteWas just admiring those birds..... how they survive in the cold with no fuss.
I talk to myself all the time since there is no one around to talk back, even the dogs will listen to my rantings....so if you are crazy so are a million others. Thanks for keeping our fine feathered friends well fed.
ReplyDeleteNothing "wrong" with talking to yourself, Karen, but when you start to answer yourself as well, then nutty might apply, and if so, then I am definitely thee already! The chickadees never stay still long enough for a good shot for me.
ReplyDeleteI love it......You are a sweetheart to not only feed the birds but to talk to them as well.....They think they have hit the jackpot when they come to your house......By the way, I talk to Simon and birds as well....
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you and your endeavours.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Love love, Andrew. Bye.
Hi there! I'm Caitlin... I stumbled across your blog through other homesteading blogs. I love these little chickadees :) I've been spending a lot of time this winter filling the feeders, watching the birds, and just enjoying every second of it. They're such little characters!
ReplyDeleteWow! They are awesome cute birds … lovely captures there. If you run a coffee shot, I would like to be your customer :) because I love coffee
ReplyDeleteTalking to inanimate objects.....well, your old point and shoot helped you save many precious moments in your life, and then was placed in a cabinet to be forgotten. It was your old friend....and you found it again....and I understand talking to it. (and people think I'm crazy, too.....at least here in blogland.)
