Saturday was one of those bea-u-ti-ful New England Fall days,
and after hearing about the hundreds of hawks sighted over the last week,
we decided to head back up to Putney Mountain for the hawk watch.
So - hawk watch take 2 - bust...
As soon as we arrived at the top of the mountain, we were treated to the sight of a hawk gliding the thermals.
I didn't grab my camera because -
1) I was enjoying just watching and
2) I had no way of knowing that would be the only hawk we'd see all day.
So - what to do when there are no hawks to be seen?
Well - there's always watching the other hawk watchers....
and of course, enjoying the scenery,
... and reading the count of all the birds I didn't see over the past week...
- and then there's the little maple stand in Putney where we consoled ourselves with a
maple creemee - (Vermont's very delicious version of soft serve)
If you've never had one, I'd suggest you get into your car
- right now -
and drive to Vermont. Yep, they're that good!
So if you happened to be keeping score -
Putney Mountain Hawk Watcher: 4,011
Me: 1 (plus a maple creemee)
Yeah, I'll call it a draw (smile)
You go girl! One down, bunches to go. This is exactly my kind of luck- but look at that beautiful scenery. So gorgeous! (the mountains) LOL! I'm getting my shoes on- be right up for the soft serve!
ReplyDeleteFun post!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice way to spend a day on - even if there were just a few...
ReplyDelete:) gotta take your wins where you can get 'em.
ReplyDeleteThe maple cremee sounds good enough to at least partly make up for no hawks! :-) And you enjoyed the one you did see. That one's in your memory.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun adventure even if you only saw one all day. The maple creme sounds so yummy.
ReplyDeleteAmazing landscapes.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots! Looks like fall already.

ReplyDeleteI would say that the maple creemee was a perfectly wonderful consolation prize for the lack of Mountain Hawks along with a beautiful day!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos ~ Sorry you missed photographing the hawk ~ We live in a beautiful country so can appreciate just 'watching' sometimes is great too! ~ carol ^+^
ReplyDeleteHow come I've never heard of a maple creemee? (Boy - my spell check is going nuts with that one!) Like the distant mountain views - looks like a perfect day.
ReplyDeleteOh love the changing seasons.

ReplyDeletethe mountain shot is amazing!! what a view. ( :
ReplyDeleteCool how hawks and their relatives have such a set migration route You can sit in the same place year after year and watch them go by.
ReplyDeleteThe scenery is indeed beautiful. I love Vermont, only been to Burlington, Jay Peak and one other place. I like your take on the other people watching for hawks.
ReplyDeleteYou made me laugh at watching the hawk watchers. :0) The scenery is lovely and the maple creemee sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWell a maple creemee sounds a good enough reason to return for some more hawk hunting.
ReplyDeletewhat beautiful shots-I bet the Hawks were busy having maple creemees ;-)
ReplyDeleteLooking at that eagle count made me wonder if my pair was part of it...only my immature eagles remain...:)JP
ReplyDeleteThe view from the mountain doesn't seem to frustrate unlike hawks! Hope u get to watch more next time :)
ReplyDeleteToo bad you didn't grab your camera, but at least you saw one hawk! Too bad there weren't more around for you to see. Maybe you'll have better luck next time :)
