There's a winter storm in Boston, and I'm thankful for a snow day
- one of those unexpected bonus days with no plans and no where to go
- time to leisurely sort through photos...
Last weekend - a very different scene
Greg and I took a ride along the coast of Cape Ann
I had spent the morning taking photos of "open" for a photography group I had joined
- four weeks late and trying to catch up...

Last weekend - a very different scene
Greg and I took a ride along the coast of Cape Ann
I had spent the morning taking photos of "open" for a photography group I had joined
- four weeks late and trying to catch up...
Yeah - anyway
I took several shots of "open" flags outside the shops in my town (a bit obvious),
- and lots of open doors (again - obvious) - and this really wasn't working for me
until
This vast openness resonates
Gloucester Harbor - a hazy Boston skyline in the distance
Rockport Harbor
open for adventure - I used to love exploring the breakwater
and, somewhat unrelated
- Motif No. 1 - a favorite of photographers and artists
the seagull on Motif No. 1 caught my eye
the setting sun casting a glow on the window
the setting sun casting a glow on the window
So - as I'm contemplating this scene - enjoying the cast of light
and deciding what my next shot should be,
a woman jumps out of a car, runs towards me with her camera
and frantically shoots off several photos -
as I take a step back - she quickly steps into my spot and takes several more photos,
runs to another spot doing the same
I stand there observing - I guess we're all trying to capture our own stories...

Tomorrow our storm will clear - back to work and reality
but I am so thankful for today
I'm joining Michelle for Thankful Thursday
and Tanya for Willy Nilly Friday Five
Thanks for dropping in!
Oh I am so excited to see Rockport in your photos today as its on my list of "must see" places in MA! I'm compiling a list for a possible fall trip!
ReplyDeletethese are all beautiful!! i admire your dedication to these projects, better late than not at all!! i am laughing at the womans awkwardness, i would have spoken to you and been slightly less nervy!!!
ReplyDeletewe got about 2 inches of snow today - we were suppose to get 10. those darn weather people, never get it right!!!
Nothing like the gift of a snow day. I love them. I also love the red building in the last two shots. What a gem. Thanks for linking up today and have a GREAT weekend!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos - brings back fond memories. Love the light captured in all of these. I might have been the lady with the camera on a few occasions...... Lol! Heard you are getting lots of snow. Join the club :) x K
ReplyDeleteyour comment to me made me laugh about me being thankful for spring weather and you for bad weather haha...honestly, since today was so cold i would have loved to have snow! when the weather tricks me with warmth i am done with winter, then this happens and i just want snow lol...beautiful photos and great observation about the woman (and all of us) snapping photos! i really love the picture of the boston skyline, never seen it like that before! thanks so much for linking with me! have a super weekend :)
ReplyDeleteLove your shots...specially the ones of Motif 1....they would make great jigsaw puzzles.
ReplyDeleteHello, beautiful captures of the water and coast. Snow days are great! Cape Ann is a beautiful place! Happy Friday, enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images! The last one is my favorite, I love the light and the bird on the chimney. I am partial to observing and contemplating a scene while taking pictures, but sometimes when I don't have the time I will run from spot to spot to just get a shot. :) Although when running from spot to spot I feel like I am taking snapshots not photographs. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteI think the first one is my favorite because of that sky. I love the way the peach shades into blue - so beautiful. We got a foot of snow yesterday, and there's more in the forecast for Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday. It was 6 degrees when I got up this morning. I guess Mother Nature decided to give us a "real" winter after all.
ReplyDeleteLove the red glow in the last shot. Happy Friday to ya
ReplyDelete...great watery views.
ReplyDelete...great watery views.
ReplyDeleteSeems that everyone wants to 'get in on the act'. Your shots are very nice. Wonder what her's look like?
ReplyDeleteI wondered that also! I tend to overthink things - which made me wonder if running from spot to spot was a better strategy...
DeleteGreat choice for open. You hit it perfectly!
ReplyDeletePerfect photo of "open". You know I love open water. That red building and that reflection in the upper window - amazing. That lady is a picture taker, stealing the life out of the scenes, you instead are a picture maker. Happy recovery from the storm.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness - such beautiful photo's!
ReplyDeleteI'm here from Debbie, the purple fun lady.
:)
Absolutely wonderful views at shoot and I simply love the sunlight helps getting pretty images on the Motif no. 1. I too like visiting breakwaters here and the waves crashing the rocks.
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend
Some people can be so rude, it's not like the scene was going anywhere, but apparently she was in a very big hurry. Liked Motif #1 with the seagulls and wreath.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! What on earth was she thinking, jumping in your space like that? I don't get people. I go to the gym and walk on the track every day and I'm always amazed at the # of people who don't pay any attention to others. It's like driving--I have to be a defensive walker to avoid crashing!
ReplyDeleteThe sea is the perfect visualization of 'open' in my mind! Just lovely pictures; what a wonderful place.
ReplyDeleteOpen indeed. Perhaps, here in the Heartland it's why I like going a few miles west where Bluff country ends and the South Dakota border opens to the dry prairie land all the way to the Black Hills and the Rockies.
ReplyDeleteOh, Karen, these are such beautiful photographs.
ReplyDeleteRockport is one of my very favorite places in MA.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Pretty scene and I love that building. That woman sounds like me when I am in a hurry to get a few shots on my way somewhere else. Beautiful shots!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! Living inland, I don't see vast bodies of water very often, but when I do they take my breath away. I used to be the lady running and clicking. In fact, if it weren't for Kim Manley Ort's classes I probably still would be that lady!
