rurality - catamount prowl

Last weekend while running errands, we decided to drive through downtown Bennington, Vermont rather than taking the more direct highway route.
I'm so glad we did.

i

While riding down Main Street,
I noticed some very colorful cats prowling the street.
I caught these two while stopped at a traffic light.

And I'm thinking that this one would have a difficult time sneaking up on prey with its bright neon face.
These decoratively painted cougars are part of a large collection that make up this year's Catamount Prowl.

Don't you love it when you stumble on something unexpected?

Love the cat art! I've seen dogs, bears, and even sneakers -- this really is popular lately it seems

  11. Awesome! Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin does the sturgeon fish around their town, each one is decorated to go with the store that it stands in front of.

  15. You have been working on your blog, good for you :) Your new blog header is very you! Love the cats. A number of years ago now our downtown had paper mache' pigs that artists had painted and decorated. We had problems with vandals beheading the pigs though, not a good look for a pig. So sad that people have to do things like that and ruin it for everybody.

  17. Challenges are set up. Each artist gets a cat and creates what they can. It always turns out interesting and some people hate it intensely.
Winnipeg , Manitoba made about 100 polar bears and scattered them downtown. Artists applied for a bear and the rest was art.

  18. Hi Karen great to see something different in a town. They had life size cows in some cities in the UK. Margaret

  19. Thise statues are truly special and exiting, Karen!
And I just noticed something in your header ... the red, covered bridge ... It reminds me a scene from a movie, I saw last summer (I just cannot remember the name of it now) ... I Wonder if that bridge is the same? It looks special and very pretty!

  22. These are cool cats! It is fun to stumble across surprises like that. One year when driving through Belfast, Maine, I stumbled across all kinds of painted bears.
