five on friday - oops - saturday

Running behind - as usual - there just aren't enough hours in the day for the things I want to do.

1) I love to read and usually have two books going at once - one on my iPod for my commute and the gym, a second on my Kindle (how did I manage before these new gadgets came along?)

2) I'm a research nut - always have been. So many interesting things, so little time. My girls learned early on that if something interested them, all they needed to do was mention it to me.

3) I got into cycling through research.
Chicago-daughter: I think I want to ride my bike across the country someday.
Me: Seriously?!? Is that even possible?
Me: (research, research, research)
Me: Wow! I think I want to get a bike!
Chicago-daughter: (chuckle) you always do that - look up my ideas and decide you like them.
Me: :-)

4) Cycling has been a lot like blogging for me. It's taken me places I wouldn't otherwise have gone, and I've met some really great people along the way.

5) I'm finding mobile blogging extremely frustrating. Please forgive me if this post is a jumbled mess when it's published - I'm not trusting this new app.

Have a great weekend!

  3. I wish I could get into cycling. I'd rather run, but it certainly is harder on the body.

I haven't tried mobile blogging yet - I can't even get the blogger app to work!

  4. I think we share a lot in common. I Alawys read more than one book at a time and love reading on the new gadgets. I am a research nut, too. I look up everything and feel that Google is my personal friend. I go on road trips regularly. I was first attracted to your blog because there is a covered bridge in your header. I am obsessed with covered bridges! I don't cycle, but I do walk and plan to walk the KATY trail across Missouri this year. Your pictures are always gorgeous! It's been a pleasure to meet you through your blog. Thanks for all you share. Have a nice weekend! Twyla

  6. Love the conversation with your Chicago daughter! I'm planning to teach my littlest one how to ride without training wheels this summer and I've promised her I'll get a bike, too, so we can go riding as a family. We'll take a lap around the block for now, but maybe one day we'll cross the country! :-)

  7. I think the idea of cycling sounds wonderful but I would have to get my old body much more fit to even start! Good for you that you hop on a bike and take an adventure. Not everybody would do that. Fun that you share with your daughter that passion!

  8. Interesting little facts about you, Karen! Bicycling sounds like a wonderful way to enjoy the scenery and stay fit! I love to research, too! I could sit down and read an encyclopedia just for fun. Great to share that activity with your daughter. Happy Saturday! xx

  9. I have that same problem with crafting... I see someone else do it and I think I can too. Doesn't always work out that way! :)

  12. Hi Karen!

I am an avid reader also. I can only read one book at a time. Otherwise I get characters mixed up. I LOVE my Kindle Fire. The best thing about it is I can make the print large enough to easily read.

I like facts, interesting statistics and research also. I am a believer in Life Long Learning.

I didn't realize you were a cycler. My Sister-In-Law's Husband used to cycle.

  15. This is not a jumbled mess but a good example of what many more people should do. Cycling ? Go for it. I don't do trips but I cycle a minumum of 1000 Km a year. Most years it's much more.

  16. I love to read too and use my iPad for it now, only sometimes I do miss having an actual book in my hand. I love riding my bike.

  17. I'm a research nut, too! Google is my best friend. One of my favorite things to do is learn about something new. There's so much out there to learn!

  19. Like reading too, but find it difficult to attempt on an iPod and have done it only once on my iPad. I prefer to hold a physical book but enjoy the electronic gadgets for lots of other things, like watching Netflix when on road trips, but not on a bike (in hotel rooms). Cycling is on hold while we're living here as there are no bike-friendly places to safely ride, so we have ferried our bikes to some places. We have tried mobile blogging. Grenville/Pat uses the Blogsy app on his iPad and I use the Mars Edit program on my MacBook. Sadly, there is no Mac version of Windows Live Writer which is my preference when at home using my desktop HP computer.

  27. Hi Karen, Biking is great - seeing landscapes, meeting people, and feeling the Wind in your hair! I smiled with the research... acknowledging the same spirit within myself :) The Kindle sounds interesting - I read on my iPad, I need to check the Kindle App to iPad - there's a sale on kindle-books at the moment ... Such a lovely and inspiring post!
